Israel Showcases 2 New F-35s

Thanks to President Donald Trump’s unique methods of negotiation, there has been much talk in recent months about the long-running development and production of the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II stealth fighter jet.

Despite the documented issues with the aircraft, some have already rolled off the production line and entered into service, with a handful of them being sold to Israel to bolster the country’s air force. They were officially revealed to the public in an air show as part of the celebration surrounding Israel’s 69th Independence Day, according to Israeli news agencies.

Israel has already accepted delivery of three F-35’s, nicknamed the  “Adir” or “Mighty One” in Hebrew, and is slated to receive four more by the end of 2017. The country is on its way to a planned total of 50 stealth fighters to be divided into two separate squadrons within the next few years, according to Breitbart.

A video produced by the Israeli Defense Force noted that the technologically advanced fighter can traverse the length of Israel in less than 13 minutes and take out their intended targets without ever being seen.

The Jewish Press reported that the three F-35s joined the many other aircraft in Israel’s arsenal for the air show that covered much of the nation, even providing a handy schedule for Israelis in various cities to know when the show would likely be overhead in their particular area.

“It was very, very exciting to see these places so close up,” exclaimed “Lt. R,” an F-15 pilot identified only by his initial for security purposes, according to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency. “Our friends and family were waving at us, and we were looking for them.”

The lieutenant’s fighter was one of several that were equipped with special cameras to obtain some incredible footage of the beautiful Mediterranean coastal country from high above.

Of the highly acclaimed F-35’s debut, the lieutenant stated: “Of course I would like to fly the F-35. But I love my plane. I wouldn’t trade it.”

This is pretty cool, and while the Israelis could certainly use the new combat platform to bolster their air defenses and strike capabilities, we nevertheless pray they never have to utilize them outside of routine training missions.
